Taxman Cometh
Everyone loves New Year’s Eve and the great celebrations that ensue. In the next few days, after all the celebrations are over, and the last firework has exploded we slowly drift back into reality. After the bowl games are over and we return to our jobs we often fail to remember that dreaded clock that started at the stroke of midnight on the first of the New Year. Soon, we are jolted back into our senses by that little envelope we are given at work. It contains our earning statement for the previous year.
Oh no! We look around as we try and remember “did I say that out loud”. It is tax time again? A thousand thoughts rush into our minds. Did I save my receipts? What did I do with that shoe box? Where or where is last year’s return? Usually these thoughts bring on a wave of panic and more thoughts about people in black suits and black trucks hauling all your stuff away.
Tax time and the pressure that it brings is the single most stressful time of the year in the United States. There is no other time or event in the whole world that causes stress on mass like tax season. This stress is mostly due to fear. We fear and believe that the Internal Revenue Service is "Big Brother” incarnate. The power that the I.R.S. wields is often thought of as fanatical.
Yes, this time of year makes everyone over the age of eighteen go crazy. It’s tax time.
